Heidi had a flat on her car this morning as she pulled out of the garage. So she left the car there and took my Tahoe. When I got home I took off the tire and we were off to the tire store. Pulling out of the cul-de-sac 20 feet in front of us a deer ran past going full bore. A few seconds earlier on my part he never would have been able to stop and would have run into the side of me. I backed up and ran in the house for the camera. He ran toward the pond and I followed the huge tracks for a bit, talked to my startled neighbors then got in the Tahoe and drove off to the store. Out on Pilot Knob the traffic was stopped. I told Heidi that I think someone hit the deer. I pulled onto a side street took the camera and walked up there. The deer was completely IN the van. Not a mark on the front of the van. Went right through the windshield. The woman driving got only a broken arm. Air bags did not even go off. If there had been a person in the passenger seat, there is no doubt they would be dead. The reason I was allowed out there was the husband asked me to document the van for him. He is the one running across the street to give me his card and ask me to come closer.

I think I was pretty lucky 3 years ago when I hit my deer. This one surely would have done me in.

Holy shit! She's lucky the deer wasn't still alive and kicking/thrashing around in there!

Wow. He should mount that thing. It had a nice rack...I think it was 8 points and what a nice spread.

She's darn lucky though....

I forwarded the website to a few friends, and I also sent it to Joe Soucheray at Garage Logic...I think he'll be amazed by it.

Wow! That is a nice rack! They live a long time in the city with nobody shooting at them.

I was pheasant hunting this weekend, and I found a fresh deer that the coyote's ate that morning. There was nothing left of this dear but the skull, still connected to the spine, and one rear leg (bones only) They picked it clean like piranna! The meat that was still there was still red and fresh so I know they just ate it Saturday morning. I kept the skull with the 8 point rack.

That is the most amazing thing Ive seen. Swiffer is right, if it was still alive once in the car that would have been terrible. The crazy thing is that it looks like there is no frontend or hood damage, so the deer must have gone straight into the windshield. Wow.
