I got stupid yesterday, and bought a used Kawasaki KLR650 enduro for a play bike. It's in good shape, but it does need some brake work. Does anyone know of a good mechanic that can work on these bikes? I'd like to have it checked out by a professional.
Thanks in advance.

Northway Sports is also a Kawasaki dealer and I heard their mechannics are good on the Vics, ask SmknAl who keep busting belts. :BigLaugh:

Well, based on Al's recommendation, and the fact that The Hitching Post won't work on bikes that are more than 10 years old, I made an appointment at Northway today. Now I just have to truck the bike up there.

Rick, are you serious about HP? That KLR hasn't been changed(except for looks) since they made it a 650, I had a 2000 model, pretty nice bike, topped out just over 100mph, pretty smooth for a big single.

Northway wil take care of you. I like the way they approach wrench issues, that is, they don't start swapping parts until they know what the problem is. They are very customer focused in the shop, they want you to be happy with their dealership and the results. If you are not happy you can tell them and they will fix any responable issue to your satisfaction without trying to tell you how f#$%$d up you are.

That's what the Hitching Post in Fridley told me. I tried to make an appointment, and they said they wouldn't work on my bike because it's over 10 years old. They say that 10 year old bikes are more likely to have hidden problems, like rusted bolts, limited parts availability, and things like that. So the older bikes can take longer to repair, which upsets customers. So that's why HP won't work on an older bike. I don't know if their other locations won't take older bikes, I only know that is what Fridley told me.
So I took the KLR and my Victory up to Northway for some work. Northway got my Vic fixed right away (the fuel pump went out. Thank God I bought that extended warranty) but it took nearly two weeks for the brake rotor to come in for my KLR. (I had them order an aftermarket rotor to save money. Unfortunately, they didn't order the part until after my bike was in the shop) I finally got that bike back last Saturday. Overall they did a good job. And they're really nice guys to work with.
Now I just have to find time to get out and ride some trails.
