Life as we know it
Deb-0-rah from WisCONsin: "2008 is starting out as a wonderful year.
"I just got the job of my dreams. I started my previous job more than nine years ago - what I thought was a temporary position on my way to bigger and better things. It wasn't a bad job: I was promoted, the people were nice, I was allowed to be creative, and I gained valuable experience and skills. But years went by (literally) without raises. FOUR years, to be exact. I had been looking for a new job for years but, living in a rural area, the good ones are few and far between.
"When I called my supervisor at the previous job to give my two weeks' notice, he said they were sorry that I was leaving. Could they offer me more money to stay? Ooh, all the things swirling in my head that I could say! But I squelched the urge to unload. I have heard many times that when a person leaves a job, he or she should resist 'burning bridges.' So I politely replied that they couldn't offer me enough money to equal the benefits that I would be receiving at my new job. But thanks for the offer, I said. It was a very satisfying moment.
"Those of you who are looking for a new job in the new year: Keep looking, network, have patience, and know that it will come. Keep building your skills, add to your portfolio and 'wow' them at the interview.
"Happy 2008!"

Agreed, burning bridges is a bad idea. I changed jobs in August after 16+ years with my previous employer. Since that time I have sought and been given friendly advise by my former colleages and even my former boss. I'm bound to meet them at conferences as well. You never know when your path will cross with a former employer again.

Wow, very strange post. I am leaving the cellular game after 8.5 years. I have been looking for a new job for about 6 months, and have had several leads, but they all fell through. Was getting very frustrated... 3 weeks ago a company that I had been in touch with about a year ago, and was really interested in, contacted me and asked if I was still interested. I accepted a position with them, and put in my 2 weeks on Monday... I begin a new job with less stress and about a 5 block commute, selling boats, 4wheelers, sleds, docks and stuff on April,9. Lesson learned, be patient and keep looking......BTW, will keep the old bridge open, :Butt:just puttin up a road closed sign for now....:TheFing:
