I was talking to a guy the other day about bikes, and when I mentioned that I have a Victory, his response was: "I've heard that they're not very reliable". I asked why that was said, and he responded that he didn't know. Perhaps some of the problems with the early model years still stir public misinformation about Victorys, but I thought his comment was interesting.
Last summer I had also talked with a guy at the local White Castle fine dining establishment, and he mentioned that his neighbor works for Victory and told him that he "wouldn't buy one". I asked him why that was, and again he didn't know. He said he rides a Honda VTX for what that's worth.
Interesting how word of mouth can influence public perception. Must be a long hard task to build market share.

I was told a very similar tale from a HD salesman. I asked what he based his comment on and his retort was "they're just not reliable" :BeatsMe: :duel:
I needless to say purchased the Victory.

A lot of non-motorcycle people still get Victory confused with Excelsior-Henderson. Both started about the same time, both from MN,...
What would you expect an H-D sales guy to say when there sales pitch is based 100% on "mystique"? If they had to rely on anything substantial, there would be plenty of empty boutiques available.
As a side note, I sat on the Buell 1125CR yesterday. Kinda interesting, but those air scoops are absolutely hideous. They (Zylstra) also had a brand new '08 1125R available for $9999. I'm not sure what the original MSRP was for that bike, but that is a great deal on paper for the package. (still looks like crap)!

Pete (Ghost) has over 100k on his bike. Although I'm a terrible example, I've got almost 60k on my 04 and I really abuse it. Sure there are a bunch of broken cluthc cables in my drawer, but anything else I've messed up myself. And since the Black Moly revelation (I think Obe-1 turned us on to that) I haven't snapped one since (20k+)

I've got 50,000 on a vintage 99 and no problems. Think it was Rob that turned us onto black molly and Obe-1 being the first to go out and buy and share with little ole me. I have now my own tube. Should last for generations.

Connie and Randy have one can I bought... HutchDean has another. It's the best $5 gift you can give a Vic rider!!!
Thanks, Rob, for the tip!!

Thumper, I thought we returned it to you after we used it... On another note, we do have a can of Fukken Wax in the garage. (Useful for other things...)
