belt winding

i just lowered my 8 ball and noticed that my belt sounds like it is high pitched wirring like a pinion gear . i have only 2700 miles any ideas, could be belt is too tight ?

It might be rubbing on the pulley/belt cover up front. I've heard of folks grinding down a bit of the metal on that cover to give the belt a little more room. Having lowered it might have used up what little clearance might have been there to begin with.

Mike is on track. Take the cover off and I am pretty sure you will have residue. This is pretty common with folks that lower their bikes.
