Underdrive pulley
I'm trying to get the pulley off so I can install an underdrive pulley. It seems to be stuck on pretty good and looks like it's probably got red loctite on. Im going to heat it up to break it free. is it safe to heat that up or do I risk getting it too hot where I might mely the rubber gasket underneath?

Do you have an impact wrench?

Yes but it's not a high end one plus I only have a little pancake compressor. It didnt break it free either. I also have a 1 7/8 wrench that I tried and im close to knocking the bike over when trying that hence the use heat to free it idea

You need a BIG electric impact wrench.

how big are you talking about? 300 ft/lbs of torque enough or something bigger? I don't have much use for one but could probably just rent one.

300lbs impact doesn't really output 300 lbs. of Force. That would maybe...maybe loosen a 90 lb lug nut.
You need something MUCH bigger. Rent Greg's - I am sure he will loan it at a great price.

Thanks to Greg and Lee for stopping by after sporting clays today and helping me get the old pulley off and the new one on. Hopefully I entertained them while messing with it!

They were a great help and helped me get it finished a lot quicker and better than if I had just gone and got a better impact wrench.

I understand... "hmm... is that tight enough...maybe just a bit more"...SNAP! (or strip)... then a bunch of swear words...
Now in my maturing age...I've got torque wrenches - and USE them. (mostly...kinda...)

Finally got the Jackpot back on the road yesterday! took a couple weeks on the tire and somewhere I lost a spacer so had to order one. With the underdrive pulley the Jackpot now is a little temperamental and may have an anger problem! not having ridden it last year I forgot how it was to begin with, now I added the underdrive and its gotten even better! I need to break the new back tire in a little more but even without getting to WOT the front end was getting light! I was laughing and smiling the whole ride!
Thanks Matt for putting together the underdrive order! Thanks Moe for bringing the impact gun! Thanks Schamby for all the base work on the engine that has given me many miles of fun!
